Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises programs of orientation, in-service-training, workshops, and continuing education for a specific Patient Care Center (PCC) and/or service line. Takes a lead role in educational initiatives to ensure quality patient care and customer satisfaction. Acts as a resource and liaison to the VUMC community by serving on hospital wide committees or task forces. Represents Vanderbilt within the professional community. Performs a range of nursing, clinical, consultative, educational, and research activities within established area of clinical expertise.Minimum Requirements: This position requires a Masters degree (MSN preferred) and 24 months experience (2 years of neurology experience preferred). Current Tennessee RN license is required. Additional Information:This is a part-time nurse educator position in Neuro/Epilepsy, 20 hours per week (days of the week to be determined). Our Neuro Science department includes: neurology, neurosurgery, neuro intensive care, and one of the South East´s neuro-epilepsy units. The newly expanded NSU is one of the largest intensive care units in the country dedicated to the care of Neuroscience patients. With a teaching and learning environment offering many continue educational in-service and critical care classes, a seven to eight week orientation program for the neuro units is offered. There is also one on one preceptors that are dedicated to the new staff member. There will be abi-weekly evaluation with the new staff member that allows feedback from the new staff member and the preceptor to provide for successful completion of the orientation process. Professional Committees include Clinical Practice, Work Life, Neuroscience Nurse Journal Club, and the Vanderbilt Professional Nurse Practice Program. NSU has 24-hour Anesthesia coverage with patient and nurse research involvement. There is also a dedicated Charge Nurse whose primary key function is to be a resource and support person for nurses working at the bedside.
