Child and Adolescent Inpatients services the Thames Valley District for children´s mental health needs. The dominant focus of service delivery is crisis and urgent assessment and treatment for children and adolescents under the age of 16 (and their families) who present with mental health difficulties such as: mood disorders, depression, suicidal behaviour, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, psychotic disorders, eating disorders and acute symptoms of distress. The inpatient service offers short-term stabilization admissions, inpatient assessments of urgent mental health problems presenting in crisis, and coordination with community resources for follow up treatment planning.The RN works with a multidisciplinary team ensuring practice is based in theory, ensuring practice is evidence based and meets all relevant standards and guidelines as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Care is based on nursing process of assessing the mental health of children and youth, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.Qualifications:Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of OntarioCurrent Basic Cardiac Life Support certificationBScN degree preferredCanadian Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Certification CPMHN(c) preferredMinimum of one year recent experience within acute mental health care; recent experience with children, adolescents and their family preferredDemonstrated competency in risk assessment and interventionSkill in the coordination of multidisciplinary plan of care/management of therapeutic milieuDemonstrated interpersonal, communication, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills with the ability to interact with others in a respectful mannerDemonstrated commitment to professional developmentAbility to work independently and as a member of the teamDemonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis.
