The PICU is accredited by California Childrens Services and serves as the core for designating Cedars-Sinai Medical Center as a Pediatric Critical Care Center by the California Department of Health. Summary of Essential Job Duties:The Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse IV, PICU, as an expert professional practitioner, assumes responsibility and accountability for the expert application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care. The Clinical Nurse IV, PICU, consistently demonstrates professional skills and abilities, utilizes her/his knowledge base and exemplary leadership and education skills to direct and supervise the clinical performance of others in the role of collegial consultant and resource person. She/he demonstrates motivation and creativity and serves as a catalyst for effective changes within Nursing at the unit, Service Line and institutional levels. Promotes performance improvement by utilizing and guiding staff in the use of Plan-Do-Check-Act model for performance improvement. The Clinical Nurse IV, PICU, provides nursing care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care/Practice, the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care, The Plan for Provision of Patient Care, the Performance Improvement Plan, the Patient Education Plan and Professional Organization Standards. The Clinical Nurse IV, PICU, maintains competency skills including the ability to provide care to special patient populations and patients and families with diverse cultural backgrounds. She/he can identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide a safe environment; and provide appropriate assessment, intervention, and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the neonatal, infant, toddler, preschool, school-age, adolescent, and young adult patient population.Requirements/Experience:BSN, Valid California Registered Nurse License. Certified in PALS. Full command (verbal & written) of the English language. Minimum of 3 years experience in specialty area required. Has maintained satisfactory Clinical Nurse III status for a minimum of 6 months. Certification in field of practice preferred. BSN preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Working knowledge of applicable standards of practice.Physical Demands:The physical ability and perceptive acuity to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect patient care.

The Pediatric Transport Team (PTT) of the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is a multidisciplinary group responsible for inter-hospital transport of sick and injured children ages birth to eighteen years. The Teams primary catchment area is within a 120-mile radius of Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children; transports outside that area are infrequent, but do exist. Primary transport destination is Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, but requests for transport of AIDHC patients to other facilities for specialty services, i.e., severe burns, are honored as well. The team is trained and equipped to care for patients with both minor illnesses and those requiring aggressive resuscitation and management. The team operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Team consists of two team members, one of which is an RN. Direct medical control is supplied by board-certified pediatric intensivists. The majority of patients transported are under two years of age, with principal admitting diagnoses of respiratory illness and neurological disorders. Trauma patients with both single-extremity and multi-system injuries are also served. The team uses specially-designed equipment to maintain or exceed the level of care provided by referring facilities, including multi-parameter vital-sign monitors, compact infusion pumps and defibrillator/external pacemakers. Advanced procedures performed by PTT staff include vascular access (intravenous and intraosseous), endotracheal intubation, chest decompression and advanced airway management. The PTT transports on average four patients daily with little seasonal variation in census. Ninety percent of patients are transported by ambulance; the remaining patients are flown by helicopter. Patient placement includes specialty units such as pediatric intensive care, cardiac intensive care, burn, emergency and surgical units, as well as general pediatric floors. In addition to performing inter-hospital transports, PTT staff assists with patient care in the PICU, NICU, and ER, and serve as resources to other nursing units within the hospital.JOB REQUIREMENTS: Looking for experienced nurses. The Emergency Services Education Coordinator working in the Pediatric Emergency Department reports to the Administrative Director Surgical Services; plans, implements and evaluates educational programs and in-service training for surgical services staff within Rhode Island Hospital. Provides and facilitates in-service education for the staff and management based on staff needs, clinical requirements, professional development and quality improvement programs. Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in another state that participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact.Understanding of the provision of the Nursing Practice Act of the State of Rhode Island. Certification in Operating Room Nursing required.Demonstrated leadership and teaching skills through formal programs and management roles assignments. PREFERRED: Minimum of 10 years of relevant clinical experience with demonstrated teaching/leadership & communications skills.
