Nemours is seeking a Bone Marrow Transplantation Coordinator to join our team in Delaware.

PRIMARY FUNCTION Assist the Blood & Bone Marrow Transplantation (BBMT) staff in developing and implementing the clinical and research programs related to the BBMT program at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children (AIDHC). ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Coordinate all activities related to children coming for stem cell transplantation at the AIDHC including gathering of pertinent medical information, assembling financial information for hospital financial services, seeking insurance and/or medical assistance approval for patients to undergo stem cell transplantation at the AIDHC. 2. Assist program physicians in reviewing unrelated donor search results to select donors for further testing and later for donation. An understanding of histocompatibility and donor search strategies is required. 3. Works with the AIDHC Institutional Review Board (IRB) to submit and maintain protocol applications, consent forms and amendments. Maintain protocol spreadsheets for renewal dates and changes. 4. Assist the BMT Accreditation Manager in maintaining accreditation of the BBMT program by Foundation Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). 5. Work with the AIDHC´s Managed Care Department to establish relationships with insurance companies. Acts as a liaison with the admissions department in handling authorizations. 6. Act as liaison between patients and various community and national resources available to assist these families. 7. Act as a program liaison with participating faculty and other physicians from outside institutions in the care of patients with malignancies and other hematologic disorders potentially treated by stem cell transplantation. 8. Maintain confidentiality of patient records and information provided by patients and utilizing this information with the BBMT Director and other members of the BBMT program to develop coordination care plans for the patients. 9. Obtain, prepare, and distribute patient educational and promotional materials related to the BBMT program. 10. Develop and implement education programs for patients and families to meet changing needs throughout transplant process. 11. Coordinate short-term and long-term follow-up for patients who are participating in the BBMT program. 12. Coordinate all outpatient specimen collection necessary either here or at the patients´ local hospital. Arrange for shipment and testing of such specimens either here or at outside laboratories. 13. Work closely with the physician assistants and other health professionals in the BBMT program in regards to scheduling of all routine clinic and operating room visits for donors. 14. Maintain the collection of transplant related data on BBMT patients. 15. Maintain research and clinical data in an orderly fashion so that it can be retrieved on a regular basis for research and scientific publications. 16. Collaborate with the Stem Cell Laboratory (SCL) technician to insure all applicable regulatory guidelines are fulfilled. 17. Work closely with the SCL technician to coordinate all stem cell courier-related activities to bring marrow or cord blood to our institution or to deliver marrow or peripheral blood from one of our patients to another institution. 18. Coordinate activities related to the participation of the BBMT program in the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) including completion of required data forms in preparation of the annual accreditation review. 19. Represent the BBMT program at the NMDP meetings and be available to speak about this program as requested at their conferences. 20. Act as the liaison between the BBMT program and the Center for International Bone Marrow (CIBMTR) 21. Act as a liaison between recipients and unrelated donors to maintain the required anonymity. 22. Maintain and distribute patient information spreadsheets at BBMT weekly meetings. Must attend weekly meetings and take the minutes. 23. Work closely with the BBMT Social Work/Patient Relations staff to make financial, travel and lodging arrangements for international patients.JOB REQUIREMENTSExperience:Bachelors degree in nursing requiredMinimum of 2yrs bone marrow transplant experience preferred The coordinator must have excellent communication and organizational skills and be able to interact well with people. He/she will need to establish relationships with transplant team physicians and nurses, hospital accounting staff, hospital managed care staff, laboratory staff and NMDP search coordinators. The coordinator should have knowledge of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, the HLA system, the unrelated search process, and the hospital´s processes and procedures for transplant patient´s evaluationThe coordinator must have basic office computing skills Certification:After two years experience as a transplant coordinator, the candidate will be required to complete a certification test to be recognized as a Certified Hematopoietic Transplant Coordinator (CHTC).
