Perinatal Nurse Manager needed in Hawaii!
Under general supervision, plans, develops, and implements provisions of quality nursing care for efficient operation of 24-hour, 7-days-a-week unit. Serves as manager, practitioner, educator, mentor, and consultant. Guides nursing leadership toward excellence in practice. Supervises assigned staff. Serves as role model. Demonstrates compliance and Principles of Responsibility. Maintains confidentiality. Protects organizational assets. Exhibits ethics and integrity. Adheres to applicable federal and state laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements, policies and procedures. Reports and/or resolves issues of non-compliance.Essential Functions:- In collaboration with Clinical Nurse Specialist, develops implements, reviews, and revises standards, policies, and procedures according to department policy and accreditation standards- Responds to patient/family complaints. Fulfills role of advocate for patients and families- Monitors and coordinates patient care provided by nursing on 24-hour basis- Provides nursing consultation to unit staff, peers, other hospital personnel, adjunct staff and nursing students and instructors- Responds to unit emergencies. Directs staff in crisis situation- Hires, trains, supervises, counsels, disciplines, and terminates assigned staff as appropriate- Communicates goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities, and authority parameters to assigned staff- Fulfills role of nursing staff advocate. Listens to staff concerns. Responds in clear, calm, consistent and timely manner- Ensures staff development. Coordinates unit in-services to meet identified core and unit focused competencies. Ensures staff completion of mandatory training according to nursing policy. Monitors and assesses competencies- Promotes flexible scheduling system that meets patient care needs and staff needs in timely fashion- Collaborates with staffing office and house supervisor to fill unexpected core vacancies due to illness, family leave, or termination- Prepares and conducts performance appraisals. Recommends promotions and staff recognition- Schedules and assigns staff in accordance with patient care, budget guidelines, and current unit acuities. Promotes effective use of resources- Attends and participates in nursing department and other assigned meetings- Develops and implements plans/projects to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness. Monitors and reports status and progress to supervisor- Monitors and evaluates quality and appropriateness of patient care, quality control items and patient satisfaction through formal feedback systems, patient surveys, picker survey, Quality Assurance measures and reports, Care Map reports and utilization management rounds- Maintains safe environment. Tracks status of identified problems or areas of non-compliance to ensure effectiveness of corrective action- Serves as resource, technical expert/spokesperson in area of specialization assuring provision of safe patient care- Maintains knowledge of various job descriptions and scope of responsibility for licensed staff. Ensures staff assignments are appropriate- May perform patient care to the extent necessary to maintain clinical expertise, competency and licensing necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and to direct the provision of care on the unit- Performs other duties and accepts responsibility as assigned- Additional essential functions as listed in the complete job descriptionQualifications:Basic Qualifications:- Two years of acute care or successful completion of training program (pre-hire, post-hire, or on-the-job) in area of specialty- Bachelor´s degree in Nursing or RN license with three years nursing management experience- Valid Hawaii RN license (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure)- Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, change management, conflict resolution, decision making, customer service, group process facilitation, influence/leadership, interpersonal relations, mentoring, oral communication, problem solving, quality management, systems thinking, team building, teamwork, and written communication- Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone- Reading, writing, speaking, understanding English- Training/giving and receiving instructions- Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g., organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertnessPreferred Qualifications:- Two years of management experience- Master´s degree in nursing administration or public health administration- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications
