Responsibilities include promotion of wellness, prevention of health problems, maintenance of health, health assessment and treatment within scope of practice; prescriptive authority for identified non-controlled medications and supplies. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is administratively accountable to the designated supervisor and clinically accountable to a designated physician consultant. Clinical practice is regulated by references including textbooks and professional journals, State Nurse Practice Act (in which licensed), Department of Veterans Affairs directives and regulations, and national certifying organizations (in which licensed). These individuals are credentialed as part of the medical center medical staff. Requirements also include state registration as a nurse practitioner, current certification by the appropriate national certifying agency as an advanced practice nurse and an approved upper division or continuing education course in pharmacology. The nurse is accountable for meeting applicable accreditation standards for the Medical Center. Duty location is the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Morehead, KY. The Director of Nursing reports to the Dean of Nursing Education and is responsible for the administration of the Practical Nursing Program and the Associate Degree in Nursing Program. This includes faculty and staff recruitment and supervision, student selection and counseling.
