The Nurse Clinician utilizes discretion and independent judgment to provide developmentally appropriate and age-specific (adolescent, young adult, middle adult, later adult) direct and indirect patient care and treatment management; utilizes disease-specific knowledge base and the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) to provide whole person care in the inpatient and the outpatient environment; ensures continuity of care across the continuum, collaborates with other healthcare team members to manage individualized patient care; provides individual and group education according to current American Diabetes Association (ADA) education curriculum; utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism; contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs research or other duties as needed.Job Specifications: Baccalaureate degree in nursing required or in progress with quarterly reports. One year experience in clinical nursing required. Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; other certification(s) as indicated in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint, Access, Excel, Word; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities. Able to: relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others in English; communicate in sufficient verbal Spanish to facilitate patient education effectively; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to lift at least 50 pounds to waist.
