Job Summary:Serves as a primary member of the core care delivery team on Labor and Delivery at a facility performing 5500 deliveries per year. Provides seperate and distinct 24/7 coverage of both Labor and Delivery and OB Triage. Key responsibilities include first assisting on OB surgical cases, discharging patients from OB Triage, performing vaginal deliveries, managing laboring patients, interpreting maternal fetal strips, writing H & Ps and operative notes, communicating with core care delivery team, conducting L & D board rounds every three hours, supporting resident and medical student education. Position operates in a high intensity, high volume, high acuity, critical care environment. Position requires credentialing and privileging through the Medical Staff of facility. Performs/records initial prenatal history/physical on patients in Triage/Labor and Delivery. Develops and initiates treatment plans. Provides routine prenatal care and documents admission, antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum orders. Delivers patient management and documentation in Triage. Interprets diagnostic tests and prescribes medications including controlled substances, schedule III - V; and schedule II. Performs antenatal history and physical. Performs speculum and manual vaginal exams. Provides routine intrapartum care including: evaluation of labor, confirmation of rupture of membranes, interpretation of external/internal electronic fetal monitoring data, amniotomy, Oxytocin/prostaglandin induction of labor, oxytocin/prostaglandin augmentation of labor, insertion of I.U.P.C, placement of fetal scalp electrode, ultrasound for presentation, amnioinfusion, interpretation of NST, and insertion of cervical medical dilators. Administers local anesthesia, performs routine term vaginal deliveries. Performs and repairs episiotomies and first, second and third degree lacerations. Performs VBAC deliveries. Obtains fetal scalp ph. First assists on cesarean delivery/tubal ligations. Minimum Job Qualifications:Education: Master’s Degree in Science with clinical specialization from an accredited institution. State of Michigan nurse specialty certification. Certification through the ACNM.Experience: 1 to 3 years experience as a professional nurse in ob/gyn specialty.Licensure: Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the State of Michigan. Nurse Midwifery License.Skills & Ability: Strong clinical assessment and management skills. Ability to work with multidisciplinary team members. Good communication skills. Multitask oriented. Ability to interpret fetal monitoring data. BCLS/NRP certification.Physical Requirements:1.
