Mercy Hospital, of beautiful Portland, Maine, seeks a Director of Surgical Services to provide leadership and strategic direction to the surgical services program. The director will join a committed leadership team focused on providing top patient care.

The successful candidate will bring to MHSM a strong background in, and knowledge of, cutting edge quality and performance improvement strategies with experience and a track record as a successful administrative leader of the medical community. The candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a supervisory/management role in acute care setting. Ideal candidates must possess a BSN or RN with BS in Health related or Business field, a Masters degree is preferred. Also, current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine required. Finally, the director must have high energy, and be committed to the success of MHSM. MHSM includes a community hospital facility licensed for 230 beds. MHSM provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical, and obstetrical services as well as home health services, treatment for eating disorders and drug/alcohol addiction. Known for excellence of nursing care, this health system is prepared to help families with a lifetime of healthcare needs. To better serve the health care needs of the greater Portland community, MHSM also continues to develop Primary Care Centers as well as various specialty practices. In addition, MHSM is in the process of building a new hospital facility and Phase I of the project, a 151,000 square-foot hospital facility on the Fore River Campus opened in September 2008. With a population of 245,000, Greater Portland, located in southern Maine, offers scenic beauty, recreational opportunities, several colleges and universities, professional sports, and a wealth of historic, cultural attractions and is a great place to live.
