Vassar Brothers Medical Center Respiratory Care Unit (RCU) is a 30 bed Med/Surg Unit specializing in Respiratory patients with 10 private rooms which are used for ventilated patients. The unit has at times exceeded 10 ventilators but the average vent census is 4-5. BiPap is another frequent Respiratory Modality used there. In fact this is the only Unit beside Critical Care that can admit patients newly placed on BiPap.The unit has a budget of 49 FTEs with a 4:1 to 5:1 nurse patient ratio, and a 2008 RN turnover rate of 6.25%.There is a Respiratory Therapist always assigned to the unit with therapist driven weaning protocols as well as a Pulmonologist that is the MD champion of the unit. Daily multidisciplinary rounds are made resulting in a decreasing LOS for the vent patients. BSN, NYS License with ACLS preferred. Maternal Child Health Educator specializing in NICU and Pediatrics

The Maternal Child Health Educator will report to and collaborate with the Supervisor of Staff Development while working closely with the Nurse Managers of Pediatrics and NICU. Responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, providing and evaluating continuing education programs for Peds and NICU. Assist with developing departmental education policies/procedures and reviews annually. Keep current with Peds and NICU nursing trends, practices and educational techniques through independent reading of journal articles and books and attendance at pertinent programs and seminars. Update programs in accordance with JCAHO and NYS recommendations as necessary. Maintain certification as NRP and PALS instructor/trainer.Current NYS RN license, BS degree, MS/MSN preferred, minimum of 3 yrs acquired clinical knowledge and related skills.
