Acts as on-site administrator accountable for the overall clinical and administrative effectiveness of service delivery of all programs during the evenings, nights, and weekends at all Vancouver Acute sites (Vancouver General Hospital, UBC Hospital and GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre). Assesses the efficiency and effectiveness of patient services interfaces between clinical programs and/or departments, providing consultation and/or direction to facilitate achievement of program goals. Oversees and administers the provision of care and has responsibility for providing direction and supervision to nursing, allied health and support staff at all Vancouver Acute sites. Makes critical decisions and solves complex problems which impact patient care, patient safety and patient flow. Ensures optimal staffing levels are maintained by facilitating alignment/realignment of staffing resources and delegating work responsibilities, in accordance with collective agreements/administrative policies. Facilitates successful resolution to customer service/client relations issues. Develops and maintains primary working relationships with on-site medical and clinical healthcare providers, management and administrative personnel. Works collaboratively with community staff, physicians and health care providers to provide an integrated and seamless continuum of services. Represents on-site administration to internal/external stakeholders including other health care administrators, community agencies and physicians; refers to Operations Directors and/or Duty Administrator for support and guidance as necessary. Responds to urgent calls to address issues of an immediate nature related to patient/public safety and/or the organizations reputation. Participates in the development, review and revision of policies, procedures and protocols. Collaborates in preparing, monitoring and evaluating the budget; ensures prudent use of resources and approves and monitors staff overtime. Provides direct patient care in emergent situations.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience: Baccalaureate in Nursing, Masters preferred, supplemented with leadership and business management courses. Seven to ten (7-10) years recent clinical experience including two (2) years progressive leadership experience in a supervisory and/or administrative capacity in an acute care setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC).Knowledge & Abilities:Comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client/family centered model of care and of CRNBCs standards for nursing practice. Demonstrated ability to plan and implement plans of care in relation to client/family priorities and to assess client responses to care and respond appropriately. Comprehensive knowledge of various health care disciplines and their role within health care.
