- Provide orthopaedic primary care services, including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients. - Assist surgeon as a First Assistant in the operating room with specific intraoperative procedures. - Function interdependently with the surgeon and apply knowledge, skill, and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Know and exhibit support of CMH´s mission and values of QUALITY, RESPECT, CARE, TRUST and COMMUNITY at all times.- Triage patient calls and evaluate patient problems. - Assess patient status by obtaining health history through patient/family interviews and chart reviews.- Consult with physicians and other clinicians for evaluation of medical condition. - Integrate data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan, including identification of any health risks.- Develop and implement treatment plan by prescribing/dispensing medications and/or injections in compliance with medical practice guidelines and state laws. Instruct patient/family regarding medications and treatments. - Provide monitoring and continuity of care between visits according to the treatment plan.- Educate patients regarding health promotion/illness prevention. Recommend appropriate community resources to meet patient/family needs.- Using the electronic medical record, document information by posting examination and test results, diagnosis, medications, and treatment. - Order/perform appropriate laboratory diagnostic and other screening tests. - Coordinate the orthopaedic surgery schedule in cooperation with Central Scheduling and the Surgery Department.- Perform office based procedures to include: suturing, casting, dressing changes, wound care, etc.- Perform hospital and emergency department consultations.- Assist the surgeon in the operating room including passing of instruments, equipment and other supplies.- Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites.- Skillfully applies principles of asepsis and infection control.- Demonstrates knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique specific to orthopedic procedures to work in collaboration with the surgeon.- Provide exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning and sponging techniques.- Handles and dissects tissues in collaboration with the surgeon.- Clamp blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, ligating vessels and other procedures in collaboration with the surgeon to achieve haemostasis.- Suture muscle, fascia, subcutaneous and skin tissue in collaboration with the surgeon.- Place drains as surgically indicated.- Participate in peer reviews, chart reviews staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies and procedures. - Act as a resource to clinical team regarding orthopaedic specialty.- Insure patient confidentiality.- Collaborate with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of the patient. - Participate in on-call duties every third weekend and one day per week.- Regular and reliable attendance. (Note: To meet the around the clock patient care needs, an employee may be requested to work extra shifts, extend their work shift beyond the normal work schedule or be called to work in an emergency situation although they are not on call.)- Promptly communicate pertinent information regarding patient, physician, personnel concerns, malfunctioning equipment, and department activities to supervisor.- Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with safety standards, HIPAA and the Corporate Compliance Program.
