POSITION REQUIREMENTS St. Josephs has opened a new intensive care unit that will be strictly dedicated to caring for congenital heart patients. Because these patients often require multiple hospital visits and surgeries, the new Pediatric Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (Pediatric CTICU) will be devoted to caring for congenital heart patients throughout their stay at the hospital. Believed to be the first unit of its kind in the country, patients will stay in the unit from the time they are admitted until the time they are discharged. The Pediatric CTICUs mission is to provide the best medical care for children with congenital heart disease by incorporating the principles of continuity of care, dedicated specialized care, family-centered care and patient safety. The new 24-bed unit will contain state-of-the-art medical equipment in a family friendly atmosphere. It features all private rooms, a family lounge, child life center, multi-media conference room, three nurses stations and several other amenities. It will be staffed by 42 specially trained nurses, five cardiac intensivists, five pediatric cardiologists and two surgeons. Congenital heart patients from infants to adolescents to young adults will receive care here. Our primary care structure reflects a commitment to continuity of care.
