This expansion plan is driven by the high incidence of heart disease in the North Country, and the lack of angioplasty and open-heart services north of a line from Albany to Syracuse. CVPH provides a high quality, cost effective service that is of great benefit to the areas overall health-care delivery system. Volumes have steadily grown since inception. Forecasts for 2008 are 1,400 caths, 180 cardiac surgeries, and 425 angioplasties.CVPHs mentor institution for cardiac services is St. Peter´s Hospital in Albany, a world-class cardiology program. Edward Bennett, Jr., M.D., who is President of Albany Cardiothoracic Surgeons, P.C., as well as the CVPH Medical Director of Cardiac Surgery, has been working with the hospital since 2003 to introduce and maintain high quality tertiary heart care for the community. St. Peter´s has been ranked as a Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital by the Solucient Institute all seven years the award has been given.
