Qualifications Masters required: nursing/health administration/or related business masters BSN required NE or NEA required in first year 3 years progressive leadership required Pediatric experience preferred Job Overview The Director, Critical Care Nursing is responsible for oversight for the organization, planning, and direction of operations, in the Critical Care Departments, that aligns with organizational strategic direction, policy and objectives. The Director provides oversight and leadership including, ensuring continuous quality improvement, consistent quality outcomes, and proactive financial management for the non service line Critical Care nursing departments (PICU, NICU), and a collaborative role with the Heart Institute (HI) nursing leadership for the CICU and other HI service line nursing services . The Director ensures effective management of human resources and fiscal resources in accordance with current organizational policies and procedures. The Director develops staff members to their professional potential, fosters tea m work within the department and throughout the organization, ensures a seamless service for patients and families and provides professional expertise to the organization. The Director, Critical Care establishes and implements departmental philosophy, goals, and objectives, standards, policies and procedures to achieve quality patient care and customer service. Develops, implements, and evaluates ongoing services for critical care programs that ensure quality patient care consistent with the hospital goals Assists the CNO with development and implementation of the strategic plan for nursing and patient care delivery. Integrates unit/organizational practices with the strategic plan. Collaborates with the CNO and the Nursing Leadership Council/Nursing Operations Council to assure organizational objectives are in line. Supports and acts as a resource for Critical Care nursing leaders. Ensures high visibility in departments and at unit staff meetings to improve visibility and communication with the staff Provides direction to unit/program managers regarding program planning, family-centered care, resource utilization, patient/family/team outcomes, pain management, advocacy, and patient and family education Develops tactics that integrate nursing service into hospital strategic plan. Provides oversight for planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of new patient care services and programs. Collaborates with clinical departments in the development of new models of patient and nursing care delivery. Areas of responsibility include lactation services, ECMO, and flights. Collaborates with service line leadership for program development and to ensure quality of care across the continuum. Serves as a resource to nurse and department managers within and across service lines Utilizes principles of Patient and Family Centered care to design and enhance care delivery. Accountable for ongoing compliance with all regulatory and accreditation bodies, and hospital policy for critical care nursing units. Completes operational budgets that reflect required workload, forecasted units of service, and programmatic changes, and conducts ongoing variance monitoring. Develops, prioritizes, and defends a capital equipment budget in collaboration with the services medical chair and nurse managers. Is responsible for the departments operational excellence and ensures that the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards. Manages human resources (HR) to ensure quality services and promote positive employee relations.
