Location: University Med Ctr at Brack Full/Part: Full-Time Responsibilities 1. Coordinates data entry and maintains statistical information for trauma registry. Oversees data abstraction to ensure validity and reliability of trauma registry. Uploads data to DSHS and National Trauma Data Bank as required. Maintains compliance with all state, federal, and ACS regulations for a designated trauma facility. Manages the collection of data and generation of statistical reports as requested by authorized persons and regulatory agencies. Participates in the process to review and update software programs that will support registry PIPS activities. 2. Performs concurrent and retrospective review of the medical record utilizing established trauma guidelines and audit indicators. Identifies areas for improvement in patient care, process, or system- related issues. Facilitates effective implementation of the Performance Improvement Patient Safety (PIPS) and Trauma Peer Review process. 3. Prepares patient care summary for trauma physician review and Trauma Peer Review Committee. 4. Provides and coordinates analysis of trauma registry data for the trauma PIPS program. Extracts data and prepares appropriate reports to support research activities and requests from the director/medical director of Trauma Services, medical staff, administration, nursing, PI/Peer review committees, Medical Executive Councils, and community agencies. Provides monthly data as requested by Medical Staff Services. 5. Provides clinical expertise and collaborates with physicians, nurses, pre-hospital providers, specialty services, ancillary services, administration, and agencies within the trauma service area to facilitate optimal care of the trauma patient. Provides feedback to health care providers from EMS and referring hospitals regarding patient care and trauma system issues. Develops and implements policies and procedures relevant to the trauma registry. Participates and assists in the development of trauma guidelines and patient care indicators. 6. Provides clinical expertise and support to the medical, nursing, administrative, and ancillary staff. Regularly attends monthly acute care staff meetings, Trauma PI Committee, and Trauma Peer Review Committee. Represents Trauma Services at appropriate meetings for related PIPS teams. Assumes accountability as a collaborative member of Trauma Services and actively participates in the development of the dynamics of a strong healthy team. Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Five (5) years experience as registered nurse with at least one (1) year experience in trauma, critical care, and/or the emergency department is required. Current RN license to practice in the state of Texas is required. The following are preferred: TNCC / ENPC, ATLS, ACTN, CEN, CCRN, AIS, TRC (Trauma Registrar Certification), CPHQ (Certified Professional Healthcare Quality). Preferred Qualifications emergency department / trauma experience TNCC ENPC AAAMS TOPIC experience with COLLECTOR program for registry EXCEL Skills Conceptual knowledge of performance improvement/patient safety; knowledge of medical terminology and medical coding systems; knowledge of data collection methodology, basic statistics, display techniques, analysis, and interpretation.
