Duties will include, but are not limited to: pre-anesthesia, peri-anesthesia, and post-anesthesia care in outpatient and inpatient setting under the medical direction of an Anesthesiologist; administration of general anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, epidural anesthesia, and regional anesthesia in collaboration with the Anesthesiologist; perform thorough pre/peri/post anesthesia assessments and develop individualized anesthesia patient care plans.Applications will be accepted from US Citizens and as allowed by appropriations and statute. Permanent Full-Time, generally Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) position located within Surgical Service at the Dayton VA Medical Center, Dayton, Ohio. Recruitment/Relocation Incentive and/or moving expenses may be authorized for this position.

MAJOR DUTIES:1. This Scope of Work is specific to the duties and responsibilities of a CRNA, who is the supervising physicians agent in the provision of patient care. As an agent of the supervising physician the CRNA will provide the following services, but is not limited to:2. Routine Duties Completes a patient evaluation and progress notes as Togus regulations require.Write pre-op anesthesia order (which must be co-signed by physician prior to surgery).Completes pre-anesthesia assessment.Perform regional techniques of spinal, epidural, and combined techniques.Determines that patient is candidate for planned choice of anesthesia after completing pre-anesthesia assessment and before the administration of anesthesia.Documents findings according to hospital policy.Induce general anesthesia, control emergence & extubation of patients.Maintain anesthesia at required levels.Support life functions during the administrating of anesthesia, including induction and intubation.Recognize and take appropriate action for abnormal patient responses to anesthesia or to any adjunctive medicine or other form of therapy.Provide professional observation and resuscitative care until patient has regained control of vital functions.Monitor regional, topical and spinals induced by physician.Complete post assessments and progress notes and any follow-up orders needed for patient care.Emergent code/floor intubations, Run ACLS Code as certified until physician arrives. Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm, including on-call during off-tour hours and weekends. On-call is every other weekend with a ratio of 1:3 for call during week. On-Call work independent with MDA available.On-Call availability in one hour.

The CRNA is an advanced practice nurse who utilizes clinical nursing skills and is prepared to administer anesthesia care throughout the medical center. The scope of practice includes direct patient care, administration, educational and research activities. CRNAs practice in collaboration with other health care professionals in a collegial relationship to achieve common goals for care, safety and welfare of patients. CRNAs provide anesthetic services within 4 general categories:1) Pre-anesthesia preparation and evaluation; 2) anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence; 3) post anesthesia care and 4) Peri-anesthethic and clinical support functions outside the OR suite. The CRNA possesses the ability to communicate, assess, and/or interpret data and information reflective of a patients status to identify patients requirements in providing the care needed as described in policies and procedures. He/she involves the patients family or significant other in decision making related to the patients plan of care when appropriate. The CRNA is clinically accountable to the Chief, Anesthesia Service. The tour of duty is 7AM 3:30 PM or 10:30 AM -- 7PM with a possible compressed tour and on-site call coverage is required.

Incumbent must possess and maintain a full, active, current, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.2. Certification by the council on certification of nurse anesthetists.3. Grade requirements established by VA handbook 5005.4. Subject to physical standards established by VA handbook 5019.5. Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
