Applications are being accepted for two APRN-PMH vacancies in Mental Health. The positions are located in the Bonham, Texas facility. One position is in the Domiciliary and the other in the Mental Health Outpatient Clinic. Conducting biopsychosocial assessments, various forms of psychotherapy (individual and group), family and psychosocial history to identify mental and physical health care needs, consultation-liaison to provide feedback to basic level nurses (staff education)to enhance their treatment of veterans and/or address systems issues (e.g., supervision of basic registered nurses), clinical supervision, and expanded advocacy activities. Prescribes medications in accordance with scope of practice. Collaborates with team members to provide clinical care that includes subjective and objective data, diagnostic testing and treatment planning. Applicant will participate in patient and staff education, medical and/or nursing research and quality improvement activities.

This is an interdisciplinary team consisting of Clinical Psychiatrist Director, Psychologist, Advanced Practice Nurses, Social Workers, and an Addiction Therapist and a Program Support Assistant. This treatment program is designed to provide substance use treatment to veterans, who in addition, may have a concomitant medical and/or a mental health diagnosis. Treatment consists of evaluation which includes bio-psychosocial assessment, assessment of addiction behaviors, group and individual counseling and addiction education. Case management and referrals are part of the treatment planning. There is an ambulatory detoxification component with medication support. There is also a treatment component for opiate dependence with medication management.The responsibilities of the Adult NP position includes: H & Ps, medical evaluation of current health status, prescribing, leading the ambulatory detox component, monitoring and ordering lab tests, providing groups on medical aspects of addiction and education and support to the team on medical issues in addictions. As part of the team, this individual will participate in planning, treatment team meetings, and development of future programs. Other duties may develop in the establishment and expansion of the program. Transport of patients in a government vehicle on occasion is part of this position description.

Performs duties of a Nurse practitioner for Medical Service and Mental Health Service. The nurse practitioner provides evaluation and treatment of uncomplicated injuries and illnesses under general protocols of care jointly formulated with the physician preceptor and within administrative protocols to ensure safe, optimal care.Physician is immediately available through direct communication or by telephone for referrals, consultation chart review, establishing and updating orders, updating diagnosis and therapuetics and co-signing the medical record when necessary to document accountability by both parties. The Orlando VA Medical Center has openings for (2) Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in the Mental Health Clinic. These positions will be treating mental health patients in the Mental Health Clinic and in homes for patients enrolled in the MHICM RANGE program. The incumbents will provide initial triage and ongoing care management, under the oversight of a designated physician preceptor, to patients seeking mental health services at this facility.In addition, the incumbent will have an important role in assisting the patient and their family to better understand and respond to their health condition, in conducting patient group meetings, and in educating/training other staff to effectively respond to each patients specialized needs in providing optimal, comprehensive Mental Health care. The ARNP will function as an active member of our Mental Health team responsible for meeting/exceeding the performance measures for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) Screening, Continuity of Care and Atypical Psychosis.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse with advanced knowledge and skills earned in a post-basic organized and approved program of study and who works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team providing comprehensive care to patients. Responsibilities include promotion of wellness, prevention of health problems, maintenance of health, health assessment and treatment within scope of practice; prescriptive authority for identified non-controlled medications and supplies. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is administratively accountable to the designated supervisor and clinically accountable to a designated physician consultant. Clinical practice is regulated by references including textbooks and professional journals, State Nurse Practice Act (in which licensed), Department of Veterans Affairs directives and regulations, and national certifying organizations (in which licensed). These individuals are credentialed as part of the medical center medical staff. Requirements also include state registration as a nurse practitioner, current certification by the appropriate national certifying agency as an advanced practice nurse and an approved upper division or continuing education course in pharmacology. The nurse is accountable for meeting applicable accreditation standards for the Medical Center. Duty location is the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Morehead, KY. Selectee may be required to work at the main VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY for a short orientation period.
