This registered nurse position is in a busy outpatient clinic. The individual must be competent in providing direct patient care to a group of patients, young adults through senescence, with a variety of mental health and substance abuse diagnoses. The successful candidates are professionals who manage the care of the mentally ill patients through collaboration with nursing staff, physicians, and other health care professionals. This individual needs to have excellent assessment skills, and be able to multi-task and problem solve while working at a high level of independent functioning. This individual will be responsible for a clinic for veterans and needs to have extensive knowledge of how to manage and interview veterans who are suicidal, homicidal, intoxicated and or psychotic. This individual will need excellent telecommunication assessment skills and will handle frequent phone calls from veterans and conduct follow-up care for patients on medications and treatments. This individual will also be responsible for the injection clinic. This individual will need to be a team player and will collaborate daily with staff throughout this facility. The individual must have extensive knowledge of psychiatric medications for medication teaching and medication management. The candidate would be expected to provide patient care, direct and assign ancillary staff to perform patient care, and ensure the delivery of quality nursing care to a variety of patients at various levels of care. The incumbent will be responsible for the delivery of quality patient care and nursing services for the seriously mentally ill residents on a 35 bed unit. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the provision of direct patient care; participation in an interdisciplinary treatment planning process; and effective utilization of program resources. The registered nurse possesses the knowledge and skills to apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative interdisciplinary practice setting.
