Assesses inpatient needs and plans, organizes, performs and evaluates nursing activities to meet those needs. Coordinates patient care and interaction of staff. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specified age range of their assigned nursing unit. Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System. Reports directly to the Operations Manager. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Demonstrates good organizational skills and effective communication skills. Demonstrates excellent clinical nursing skills, knowledge, judgment and leadership in an independent environment. Demonstrates ability to work independently as well as in team environment. Must be confident, personable, self-motivated and function with tact and poise in stressful situations. Must be capable of making rapid and clinically accurate decisions and possessing innovation under adverse conditions. Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrates ability to interact professionally on all levels within and outside the organization. Demonstrates basic computer skills. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an approved school of nursing required. Requires RN currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of Pennsylvania. BLS certification preferred. Duration of on-the-job training to become familiar with job duties varies by individual unit. PICU The objective of PICU is to provide specialized nursing care to the critically ill pediatric patient through cooperative team relationships of physicians, nursing personnel, and members of other departments in the Medical Center centralize in one unit the various types of equipment, drugs and supplies necessary to administer care to the critically ill pediatric patient. The development and implementation of nursing care plans which are consistent with the medical plans of care are done taking into consideration the physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs of the individual child and his/her family while providing provide and maintain a safe environment for the patient. One year pediatric experience required.
