Director of Professional Clinical DevelopmentGENERAL SUMMARY: Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of all aspects of nursing education. Conducts individual and collective needs analyses and ensures the development of programs which address identified orientation, education, and inservice needs. Supervises the development and presentation of Department of Education programming and evaluates outcomes. Manages human resource and financial aspects of the education department.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Operational Quality Results - Coordinates the development, implementation, and revision of departmental policies and procedures via the education team. Prepares and maintains records and reports related to work group performance, attendance, and expenditures; conducts analyses of and resolves operational problems in the unit. Ensures opportunities for faculty to attend programming to enhance their knowledge base. Monitors requirements of the various accrediting agencies; ensures that staff meet/exceed requirements and provides information or programs to assist them in achieving compliance. Prepares a variety of reports for accreditation for MNA sponsored programs. Researches specific topics; develops, coordinates, presents, evaluates, and conducts follow-up activities on each program. Researches, evaluates, secures, maintains, and updates instructional and reference materials. Designs and produces teaching materials and audiovisuals. Obtains outside experts when advisable. Delegates these activities to staff as appropriate.2. Human Resource Management - Hires, develops, evaluates, and, when necessary, disciplines and discharges subordinate personnel. Ensures that development of subordinates reflects state-of-the-art professional nursing knowledge and skills, as well as the ability to communicate information to the nursing staff using effective, efficient, and appropriate educational techniques. Evaluates, assesses, and prioritizes educational and/or inservice needs of individual staff members and staff groups. Ensures development of appropriate programs, materials, and/or resources to meet identified needs. Provides career guidance and counseling to nursing personnel and other health team members. Delegates these activities to subordinates as appropriate. Supervises development and implementation of orientation programs for nursing staff. Participates in and monitors the presentation or orientations and evaluates program effectiveness. Designates specialists to coordinate inservices/continuing education activities within clinical areas to which assigned. Communicates approved policies and procedures to subordinates and ensures compliance.3. Financial Management - Prepares and administers the budget for the Department of Education. Obtains input for budgetary expenses from staff on a regular basis. Monitors expenses for education. Investigates resources for equipment and materials as appropriate. Collaborates with other Directors in sharing resources to eliminate unnecessary expenses.4. Department Planning and Business Development - Develops and recommends short- and long-term goals in collaboration with the education staff. Develops and produces informational pieces on available inservice programs, including educational brochures, calendars, and manuals. Coordinates continuing education activities and maintains MNA approval as a continuing education sponsor. Plans, develops, and teaches management education programs as appropriate. Acts as a spokesperson for educational related areas of concern. Acts as a liaison for all affiliating schools; maintains appropriate contracts.5. Other Assignments/Major Projects/Special Duties and Responsibilities - Supervises the completion of studies and special reports, such as MNA annual reports. Meets all deadlines or related budgetary targets. Chairs committees related to education. Acts as a resource to the Chair of the Education Council. Responds to issues related to learners. Provides guidance and counseling for learners and nursing staff interested in furthering their education. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of trends in nursing and nursing education. Participates in appropriate professional and/or educational associations.OTHER JOB KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:1. Master´s Degree in nursing with specialty in education and/or management. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.2. Five to seven years of experience in clinical nursing education, including teaching, curriculum, coordination, and management capacities.
