SMCH Surgery Responsibilities 1. Obtains certification and maintains competency to perform venipuncture for phlebotomy 2. Assists with clean and/or sterile dressing changes in departments where this task is frequently performed after completing SETONs certification and competency check-off. 3. After completing SETONs certification and competency check-off, performs applicable tasks which may include: (a) urinary catheterization, (b) electronic monitor observation, (c) removal of staples and simple sutures, (d) removal of peripheral IV catheters. 4. Reinforces health teaching that is planned and/or provided by the registered nurse. 5. Performs clerical duties which may include, but are not limited to: A. Entering orders and messages into and retrieving information from all appropriate computer systems. B. Transcribing physician orders with verification by RN. C. Ordering unit supplies (lab supplies, nourishments, office supplies, chart forms) Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is required. Six (6) months of experience for external candidates in a related position, completion of one semester of nursing clinical, or completion of a GAIN approved course is required. Internal candidates must have successfully completed Clinical Assistant I and II competency checklist. Department specific certification may be required. Within one month of hire, must obtain CPR certification through the American Heart Association. SMCW Imaging Support Services Responsibilities 1. Performs basic population-specific nursing tasks under the delegation and supervision of the RN and according to each patient/clients individualized plan of care. Nursing tasks are provided with courtesy and sensitivity to the needs of the clients. Examples include, but are not limited to, the following: a. Collecting, reporting and documentation of data including, but not limited to: ( 2. Vital signs, height, weight, intake and output, oximetry and comfort level ( 3. Specimens for diagnostic study (urine, stool, sputum and blood via finger-stick for blood glucose testing) ( 4. Changes to baseline data established by the RN ( 5. Client or family comments relating to the clients care and behaviors related to the plan of care b. Ambulation, positioning and turning c. Assisting with admissions, discharges, transfers and transportation of patients d. Passing and collecting meal trays/menus and providing food and fluids as ordered f. Socialization activities 6. Maintains confidentiality for written, verbal and computerized information. 7. Provides basic communication and clerical support for unit functions including, but not limited to: a. Assisting with answering and responding to call lights and telephone calls b. Utilizing equipment necessary for communication (intercom system, paging system, fax machine, pneumatic tube system) c. Assembling and maintaining departmental and patient records 8. Provides basic materials management support as needed including, but not limited to: a. Stocking and obtaining unit supplies and equipment b. Identifying, labeling and reporting malfunctioning equipment 9. Provides basic housekeeping duties as needed including, but not limited to: a. Assisting in maintaining a clean, safe and orderly environment for patients and staff b. Advocates for patients/families to ensure patient rights and promote integration of personal, cultural, social and spiritual preferences into care provision. 2. Utilizes basic critical thinking skills and the nursing process to provide and coordinate patient care on patients with predictable outcomes. Documents in compliance with network standards. 4. SHLMC Rural Health Clinic MF Responsibilities 1. Maintains clinical expertise and competency (to include population specific) as well as demonstrates thorough knowledge of procedures to deliver quality care in specialized situations. 2. Documents delivery of health care and nursing process in accordance with Setons policies and procedures in a timely, accurate and consistent manner. Reports abnormal critical health data. 3. Communicates effectively and appropriately with patients, family members and other health care providers. Acts as a resource for facilitating communication when necessary. 4. Coordinates and delegates the delivery of patient care provided by selected members of the health care team. 5. Coordinates and delegates the assignments of routine tasks to selected members of the clinic staff in order to keep the clinic operational to selected members of the clinic staff. 6. Facilitates coordination of services with the non-medical clinic staff to obtain optimum patient flow and increased patient satisfaction. 7.
