Demonstrates self directed learning and participates in continuing education to ensure professional growth. Establishes and continuously demonstrates professionalism in interactions with patients, family, physicians, nursing, staff and other patient care members and co-workers. Assists co-workers in completing their duties to promote effective teamwork. Demonstrates flexibility to assist in achieving safe, effective and efficient staffing and scheduling. Utilizing the nursing process, provides on-going assessment of patient condition, pt/family readiness to learn, current level of knowledge, ability to learn, observing and recording significant conditions and reactions, detecting deviations from normal, reporting findings and documenting appropriately. Assists and advocates applicable interventions and care planning. Assists RN in initiating a patient education plan, patient are plan &/or clinical pathways, according to individualized needs of the patient utilizing a multidisciplinary approach, and as prescribed by physician and hospital policy, including patient and family instruction. Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies and procedures and protocol. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques and applicable standards.Cooperates with other personnel and stakeholders to achieve departmental objectives and maintains positive relations. Vital Signs. Bathing upon admission and every other day. Demo if desired by parents. Changing diapers. Assisting with circumcisions and cleanup afterwards (equipment, cribs, etc.) Assisting with breast feeding BGs per protocol. Discharge teaching. Assisting with routine newborn care with parents. Checking charts and daily charting. Transporting babies in and out of nursery. Checking on feeding times, etc, while babies are out in room. Daily shift equipment checks. O.E. on Meditech, verifying labs, etc. Calling physicians on abnormal lab values, etc. Routine lab draws PKUs, H/H;s, etc. After initial assessment completed by RN, daily shift assessment done on each baby.
