Functioning within the framework for shared governance, the Nursing Department Head has 24 hour accountability for managing resources (human, material and financial) to ensure quality, cost-effective delivery of culturally competent patient services for specific patient populations, in one or more units. Is recognized as a professional role model and promotes a professional environment that supports continuous learning, employee and patient satisfaction. This is accomplished by direct action, delegation, coaching and support of unit-based shared governance councils. Supports, assists, and reports to the Director of Nursing Services. QUALIFICATIONS:* Bachelors degree in Nursing is required.* Approximately three to four years of progressively more responsible job related experience with knowledge of nursing theory, practice and administration, data management and analysis, budget, staff development, and progressive discipline in order to supervise planning and implementation of care* Licensure as a registered nurse in the District of Columbia is required.
