Today the cardiology team at Geisinger Medical Center consists of 18 physicians and 8 advanced practitioners.The successful candidate serves in an advanced practice role providing comprehensive health assessments, physical examinations, and care by demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill in the diagnosis, treatment and management of cardiology patient population. This unique provider works collaboratively or under physician supervision to assess patient needs, plan and provide care and education with an emphasis on prevention, evaluates outcomes, and coordinates follow-up for both patients and their families. Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following: Manages inpatients as required and assists in the smooth, efficient operations of the outpatient clinic. Serves as a clinical expert, providing direct client care including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and plan of care. Evaluates the patients progress in achieving expected outcomes, barriers to successful outcomes and provides follow-up. Prescribes, adjusts or discontinues medications as appropriate. Participation in rounds. Designs and provides complex teaching strategies (both formal and informal) to promote, maintain and improve health and prevent illness for the medical staff, students and community in addition to the education provided to patients, families and caregivers. Accurate and complete charting including proficient electronic medical record documentation. Serves as a leader, preceptor and role model for the professional development of peers, colleagues and other health care providers. Self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency within specialty range. Requires weekend, holiday and potential rotation in the call schedule. This unique position reports to the Cardiology Chief of Advanced Practitioners and/or assigned collaborating or supervising physician. The successful candidate will be actively involved in all aspects of Geisinger Health Systems Mission i.e., Heal, Teach, Discover, Serve. The MSN Nurse Practitioner candidate will have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners and must be eligible for or certified by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Additionally, this candidate demonstrates excellent people skills, concern for the health and well-being of others, superior written and oral communication skills, computer literacy including electronic medical record documentation and the ability to work both as a team member and independently. Cardiology experience preferred.
