The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse (WOCN) / Clinical Resource Nurse is responsible for promoting expert nursing care for clients (including family as identified by client) with rehabilitation needs, ostomy/continent diversion, skin and wound management problems and incontinence. Acts as a clinical resource for nurses and other health care providers in the acute hospital, rehabilitation and community settings, and provides clinical consultation on interdisciplinary teams in addressing the health issues of clients within the content areas. Provides specialized clinical education/teaching services using advanced theory and knowledge of content area as well as teaching and learning principles and processes. Plans, consults, coordinates and collaborates with staff in various disciplines, provides leadership in the delivery of care and in client/family teaching; provides health education and promotion services, community development and resources information to the public and community partners to achieve optimal health outcomes. Client group is in ambulatory, inpatient and residential settings.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience:Baccalaureate in Nursing plus three years recent experience in medical/surgery nursing, rehabilitation and in developing and delivering educational programs for clients and families, and an Enterostomal Therapy/Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse Certificate or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC).Knowledge & Abilities:Comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client/family centred model of care. Comprehensive knowledge of CRNBCs standards for nursing practice. Comprehensive knowledge of the theories/concepts/principles relevant to clients, with rehabilitation, ostomy/continent diversion, incontinence, and skin and wound management problems, across the continuum of care.
