Master´s degree strongly preferred. Current California RN license required.POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for clinical education and training programs to meet the learning and developmental needs of the clinical staff. Designs, implements, and evaluates strategies to maintain clinical competency of care providers.QUALIFICATIONS: Previous recent experience in service education in clinical area required (usually two to five years). Adult learning knowledge required. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and group facilitator process skills. Must possess a thorough knowledge of the California Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, Title 22, QA, BRN regulations.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: BLS instructor preferred. Active participation in professional nursing organizations preferred. Recent acute care, trauma, and neurosurgery experience, 2-5 years preferred. ACLS/TNCC provider and instructor preferred. Three years experience in area of specialty required (Neurosurgery/Medical-Surgical/Telemetry). Previous teaching experience required and CPR instructor preferred.DUTIES: Designs, implements, and evaluates programs that meet learning and competency development needs of clinical staff. Responds quickly to corporate changes in clinical practice and provides training required. Insures compliance and documentation of educational programs based on regulatory agency standards. Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates effectiveness of orientation/training/cross-training programs that are based on an assessment of individual skills and evaluated by clinical competency outcome criteria. Collaborates with leadership to improve quality and efficiency throughout the continuum of clinical care. Conducts research into professional and community practice standards, technology, and clinical innovations for improved service within assigned care area. Makes recommendations for cost/quality strategies; works within budget. Communicates and markets educational programs to broad target audience using appropriate methods. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.OTHER DUTIES:- Collaborates closely with Neurosurgery/Telemetry/Medical-Surgical programs, Clinical nurse specialists and educators to establish and monitor trauma/neurosurgery patient care standards and make recommendations for changes in clinical practice. Serves as a role model for Trauma/Neurosurgery Nursing Practice.- Collaborates with the nursing staff in assessing patient, family, and age-specific nursing needs. Assists in developing the plan of care for complex high-risk patients that is multidisciplinary. Insures patient and family participation in that plan. Supports patient self-management.- Evaluates the effectiveness of the care provided with appropriate data analysis and ensures that data is timely, accurate and complete.- Designs teaching programs for patients/families and provides assistance to nursing staff in program implementation. Maintains/updates patient education materials for inpatient and outpatient with annual review. Provides education for patients and families in the theory and skills necessary to manage their disease(s).- Maintains high degree of visibility via teaching, mentoring and consulting on all three shifts on a regular basis.- Provides ongoing communication with nursing schools and community programs in order to recruit and retain Neurosurgical/Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Nurses.- Works closely with Staff RNs to develop clinical experts within the Neurosurgery Clinical Services, which clearly define knowledge of clinical, regulatory and document standards at the bedside. Competency will be developed and assessed when new techniques or responsibilities are introduced and annually.- Develops and maintains a formal Clinical Mentorship Program for Neurosurgery/Telemetry/Medical-Surgical Nurses.- Collaborates with Trauma Service and other educators to develop, implement and evaluate a Neurosurgery Nursing Orientation and Competency Documents.- Provides consultation to physicians, nurses and other health care providers in meeting care needs of individual or groups of patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.- Makes recommendations to revise standards of care or standards of practice based on research. Defines and implements best nursing practices.- Provides written input to the manager for Staff Nurse Evaluation addressing clinical competence for the purpose of coaching and counseling.- Collaborates with the trauma program, clinical managers, clinical specialists and educators
