Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse that provides independent nursing and collaborative medical management to a defined patient population, according to standardized procedures and in collaboration with a physician supervisor. This position provides primary, secondary and sometimes tertiary care within scope of practice, licensure and organizational policies. Services provided include, but are not limited to: Taking histories, conduction physical examinations, ordering, performing and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory test and therapies and furnishing drugs and devices in a cost efficient manner for specific conditions. Emphasis is placed on health promotion, disease prevention and patient education, combining qualities of nursing and medicine. This NP role acts as a health care resource and a role model to staff by maintaining a high degree of ethics and integrity. Position will focus on patients to be seen in the outpatient clinic sites. Candidates must be flexible and willing to work at different sites based on patient need and scheduling. SCOPE: Provides primary care in collaborative joint practice with the physicians to oncology patients. Scope of responsibility includes expert practitioner, educator/teacher, care management, consultant, nurse researcher, and nurse leader. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care for individual patients. Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response within practice protocol; prescribes drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation. Responsible for processing and patient care management of breast patients including in some patient and mainly outpatient arenas. The APRN works collaboratively with attending physicians, nurses, and utilizes a team approach in the care of the complex breast patient and the patient with breast cancer.
