Kaiser Permanente is proud to be an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.DEPARTMENT: UrologySCHEDULE: Part-Time Regular, 20hrs/wk, Day Shift.Week 1: Monday and Tuesday 8:00am-5:00pm, Wednesday 8:00am-12:00am, On call: Saturday 8:00am to 8:00am (24hours)Week 2: On call: Sunday 8:00am-8:00am (24 hours), On Call: Monday and Tuesday 5:00pm to 8:00am.Wednesday and Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm, Friday 8:00am-1200am.*OR days may be 7:45am - 6:15pm. Days, Hours, Weekends/Holidays rotation may change due to operational needs. Overtime and additional hours are assigned per contractual language.EDUCATION: Graduated of an accredited nursing program required: Master’s degree in Nursing required.CERTIFICATION/ LICENSE : Must have a UPIN or be UPIN eligible which requires a Masters Degree in Nursing and current National Certification from one of the following organizations: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; American Nurses Credentialing Center .Current American Heart CPR/BLS required. Family Practice or Adult NP certification required. Current RNP license required, must meet NP requirements Under Title 16, Chapter 14, Article 8 of the California Administrative Code; Current furnishing license preferred or obtained within six months from employment. SKILLS TESTING: N/AQUALIFICATIONS: One year NP experience preferred. One year experience as a Urology Nurse Practitioner experience strongly preferred. Must meet NP First Assist requirements. Must be able to read and interpret. Must be prepared to provide care for Urology patients and have demonstrated skills in the management of adults. Must have demonstrated skills in taking patients histories, making patient assessments and developing a plan of care based on sound medical judgment. Must have demonstrated knowledge of pathophysiology in identified patient groups. Must have demonstrated skill in interpreting patient data and managing specific and longitudinal care. Must work effectively with physicians and other health team members to meet comprehensive needs of members. Must be able to demonstrate or be willing to be trained to perform basic procedures in the full scope of NP practice. Must be able to practice independently with ability to communicate closely and knowledgeably with Primary Care Physicians and specialists. Must be able to provide care at 15minute intervals with a minimum of supervision and be willing to see an occasional extra patient as needed. Must be prepared to teach patient education classes as assigned. Must possess demonstrated initiative and history of continuing education in primary care knowledge and skills. If unable to fill position with FNP II, will consider an FNP I.POSITION SUMMARY:DUTIES: Under the direction and supervision of a physician, and using Standardized Procedures, the NP provides high quality, cost effective patient care by performing surgical preparation procedures, perioperative and post-operative procedures, and assists in performing surgical and other procedures. Will have primary OR responsibilities at MAN location. May be asked to work at other CVSA surgical sites and position may move with work as needed in the CVSA. On call schedules may change based off of operational needs. Performs admission evaluation on new patients to include: obtaining basic medical information and history, reviewing patient´s medical record, performing physical exam, transcribing history and medical findings into patient medical record, and reporting deviations from normal findings to attending physician. Provides patient and family with pre-operative and other pertinent education. Answers questions regarding surgery, recovery and risk factor modification, procedures; provides blood transfusion information; performs surgical peri-operative procedures; locates and utilizes x-rays, instruments and pertinent patient information. Reviews patient chart noting allergies, pertinent medical history, and abnormal physical findings. Assists in performing surgical procedures and other procedures consistent with the standards of care and practice guidelines; Will work as the first assist during surgical procedures, start IV´s, and/or perform suturing. Performs post-operative procedures to include transcription of standard post-operative orders into patient medical records; assists physicians with evaluation and management of patient´s status during recovery; reviews vital signs, laboratory and x-ray studies; assists with technical management of patients. Performs patient discharge in conjunction with social worker, pharmacist, and physical therapist; dictates discharge and transfer summaries in a timely manner. Ability to help develop appropriate protocols and keep protocols up to date. Demonstrated ability and skill in recommending medications, treatment and follow-up care for specific conditions, according to approved protocols and under the supervision of a physician. Demonstrated ability and skill to assess, teach and counsel patients. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a working relationship with patients, physicians and other team members. Exhibits a professional manner with a high degree of courtesy, tact and poise when interacting with employees, patients and visitors
