The RN participates as a member of the health care team in delivering quality health care to patients, which supports Kaiser Permanente´s mission, vision and values. The RN provides a variety of nursing services both in person and by phone utilizing the nursing process and leadership skills to address acute and chronic needs of Health Plan members and other patients of the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Program. He/she works under the general direction of the designated supervisor.Essential Functions:- Assist clinicians with ENT specific procedures: -Tracheotomy care, fitting and set-up -Proper scope washing and care -Prepare patients for pre and post ENT procedures, minor surgery and biopsy -Proper instrument care and usage -Obtaining various cultures from nose, throat and ears -Surgery Scheduling -Phone advice -IV Antibiotic Infusion -Triaging of walk-in patients -Pre and post-op patient teaching Suture removal- Demonstrates personal commitment to service and to socially relevant practice- Demonstrates behaviors that illustrate commitment to KP Promise (quality you can trust, caring with a personal touch, convenient and easy and affordable).- Adheres to Quality of Service Standards and Behavioral Guidelines. Demonstrates ethical and legal behavior in all professional activities- Acts as an advocate for individuals, groups and communities.- Demonstrates accountability for own ethical behavior and for delegated actions.- Demonstrates responsible and accountable behavior concerning own work schedule.- Understands and supports Kaiser Permanente policies, legal considerations and professional ethics.- Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and confidentiality policies. Qualifications: Basic Qualifications:- Minimum 2 years experience in acute care or ambulatory care/clinic setting within the last 5 years.- Knowledge of Otolaryngology (ENT) specialty with understanding of specialty anatomy and physiology- Knowledge of ENT procedures- Sterile and aseptic technique- Scope washing and proper care and handling of scopes- Collection of specimens- Proper handling of biopsy specimens- Knowledge of medications and antibiotics- IV skills- Wound assessment- Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing.- Current state RN licensure.- Current BLS/AED certification upon hire and to continue employment. Demonstrates clinical nursing and leadership skills.- Able to type 20 words per minute.- Demonstrates effective interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.- Willingness to learn computerized information systems.- Demonstrates ability to work within teams and within a dynamic work environment.- Customer focused.Preferred Qualifications:- Current or future bachelors degree in nursing or related field.- Previous experience with population care/case management, triage and advice.- Previous Ambulatory Nursing experience- Experience with the ENT Specialty

Description The Medical Surgical RN provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. The tasks and responsibilities include:Assesses plans and evaluates patient care needs. Carries out physician orders. Administers prescribed medications, changes dressings, cleans wounds, monitors vital signs. Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well coordinated patient care. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. Instructs and educates patients and families. Assesses and coordinates patients discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team. Provides age and culturally appropriate care. Orients and mentors new staff members. Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Qualifications Required Job Qualifications include:Current licensure as an RN Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider. Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Customer service abilities including effective listening skills. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment. Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
