Incumbent will work as a staff CRNA under the supervision of the staff anesthesiologists while administering anesthetic care for a broad range of procedures consistent with the scope of practice. Duties will also include evaluation of the patients preoperative clinical status, to create a database to facilitate the formulation of an anesthetic care plan, which will include the nature of the anesthetic agents, and methods of administration. Incumbent will be on-call for emergent surgical procedures, and to provide emergent airway assistance. Incumbent will maintain the appropriate records for the preoperative evaluation, and for the course of the anesthetic. Incumbent will assist/participate in the Services Quality Improvement monitoring.

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetic at the VA Medical Center Memphis administer anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in four general categories: (1) pre-anesthesia preparation and evaluation (2) anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence, (3) immediate post anesthesia care, and (4) airway management consultations outside of the operating room suite. Incumbent function as a member of the anesthesia team under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist. VA CRNAs are highly valued members of the health care team and participate in the delivery of comprehensive health care services for veteran patients.

The incumbent will perform and document a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies and selecting pre-anesthetic medications and fluids. She/he will develop and implement an anesthetic plan; initiating the anesthetic technique, which may include general, regional, local, and sedation (MAC) monitored anesthetic care.
