This resource is an expert in patient safety and the use of technology to optimize care delivery processes and effectively communicate patient care activity. The CI Pharmacist specializes in the medication process, from ordering to administration, and is responsible for effective process design, development, and implementation of the Electronic Medical Record and Clinical Decision Support.This role supports pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other clinicians as the resource for requests related to the EMR changes and additions. The CI Pharmacist demonstrates independent decision making as appropriate in evaluation of requests for system improvements and determines feasibility and advisability of system changes. The CI Pharmacist works closely with clinicians, departmental leadership, Quality, Patient Safety, Accreditation and Licensure Departments and Information Systems staff to clarify needs, prioritize requests, design workflow to fit with electronic systems, and execute change and facilitate adaptation to the Electronic Medical Record. Duties will include the following: - Responsible for order set management related to medications.- Development and ongoing maintenance of overall principles for safe design and use of order sets, with a focus on medications, according to project timelines and milestones. - Development and maintenance of standard order set clinical content.- Identified leader as resource for requests for changes, additional orders and order sets.- Shepherds pharmacists through the design, build, and testing of clinical content and participates in governance bodies related to policy.- Collaborates with specialty authors to develop and optimize order sets based on order set standards, patient safety principles, and evidence based practice guidelines. - Employs knowledge of State Board of Pharmacy regulations and Federal Drug Laws in all design and development of workflow and policies. - Thought leader for maximizing technology design to achieve the best clinical outcomes.. - Leads the organizational design, implementation and evaluation of Clinical Decision Support. - Content expert on the literature related to the use of the Electronic Medical Record and Clinical- Decision support to meet organizational quality and patient safety goals.- Participates in quality projects and on assigned committees to provide expertise on using the clinical information system to achieve goals.- Collaborates with the EMR Team, pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and allied health on education for safe and effective use of the medication management and orders.- Participates in functional testing for human factors issues before and after initial implementation and system upgrades and improvements.- Problem solves application issues and works through barriers to achieve results by collaborating effectively with users and the Information Technology staff. - Accountable for the successful utilization of medication management in order sets and clinical decision support to drive best practices. - Demonstrates proficiency in conducting, coordinating and publishing research in HealthCare Informatics.JOB REQUIREMENTS: - Minimum seven years hospital experience; strongly prefer large clinical project experience that required direct engagement of clinicians such as implementing pharmacy information systems.- Experience working on Patient Safety initiatives a must.- Working knowledge of: o SCM system.- Clinical performance improvement.- Design and configuration approaches of clinical applications across multiple platforms.- Proven communication skills with all levels of personnel within the organization.- Demonstrated presentation and analytical skills.Demonstrated leadership in: - Relationship building, Change management, Project management and Problem resolution.- Ability to work effectively in an ambiguous, dynamic environment.- Strong skills in MS Office suite.- Knowledgeable in the Eclipsys product line or equivalent.- Knowledge of Eclipsys standard implementation methodology for the Eclipsys product(s) being implemented.- Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy or a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required.- Licensed Pharmacist in Ohio required.University Hospitals is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
