North East Medical Services (NEMS), a multi-specialty health care organization in San Francisco, is seeking a Regular Full-Time Pharmacist. The basic function of this position is monitoring the drug therapy of patients; conferring with and assisting other medical personnel in the treatment of patients; providing dosing and formulary advice; recommending changes in drug therapy; dispensing, compounding, procuring, and dispensing of medication according to established policies and procedures of NEMS, the California State Board of Pharmacy, and applicable federal regulation.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Responsible for the efficacy, potency and safety of all pharmaceuticals dispensed, and or used within the pharmacy.- Dispenses, compounds, procures, stores, packages and distributes according to legal requirements, established policies and procedures, and accepted professional standards of practice; documents responsibility by signing or initialing all prescriptions.- Monitors drug therapy of patients to detect adverse drug reactions and to insure effective as well as cost-effective therapy; suggests changes to drug therapy.- Provides leadership and direction to pharmacy interns, technicians, and other pharmacy personnel; resolving professional, technical, and clerical problems; orienting new employees to assigned duties; training employees in new procedures/techniques; checking for errors; and adherence to established policies and procedures.- Accepts responsibility for problem resolution, i.e. resolving professional problems related to the interpretation of medication ordered, drug furnishing irregularities, service complaints, and technical problems such as equipment or drug procurement issues according to established policies and procedure.- Performs duties as assigned by the department supervisor and CEO.- Ensuring prescriptions and dispensing of medication concur with current JCAHO policy and regulation.- Proficiency with the QS1 software system.MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Operate a cash register/credit card transaction in a high volume setting.- Oversee maintenance and upkeep of all automated equipment.- Queries patients to gather information regarding medication usage, drug allergies/sensitivities and other pertinent patient information.- Basic use of Misys System and insurance web sites to obtain patient information essential for medication processing.- Assists in the maintenance of inventory records and controls as required; in the taking of inventories, in the maintenance of adequate stock, and in the receiving of drugs and supplies.- Performs related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:- Technical or academic knowledge: Academic training as a pharmacist. Knowledge of clinical medicine basics.- Licensure as a pharmacist: requires a B.S. or Pharm.D. Degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy and successful completion of an internship and passing of the State Board of Pharmacy exam. Maintenance of license requires 30 hours of Continuing Education units every 2 years.- English fluency required.- Conversational Chinese (Cantonese) language skills required.
