SMCW Pharmacy Responsibilities 1. Prepares and packages medications for pharmacists review as part of filling a physician�s prescription or medication order. 2. At sites where applicable, prepares IV admixtures utilizing appropriate aseptic technique and safety precautions as outlined in departmental policies. 3. Accurately and efficiently restocks automated dispensing cabinets, crash carts, anesthesia and other medication trays/boxes/carts ensuring that medications are in date and adequate quantities are available. Accurately restocks robot and monitors robot fill, at sites where applicable. Accurately completes necessary paperwork and QA associated with each task. 4. Efficiently and accurately delivers medications to the patient care areas per department policies. Utilizes appropriate log in procedures where needed. Processes medication credits accurately and in a timely manner. 5. Possesses basic knowledge of inventory control and works to maintain appropriate stock levels in areas in which he/she works. Informs inventory control technician of changes in usage patterns so that a sufficient amount of stock can be obtained or inventory reduced. 6. Possesses basic knowledge of pharmacy computer system and informs the pharmacist of potential problems identified by the pharmacy computer when patient information is entered into the system. Updates patient demographic and allergy information per departmental policy. Knows how to run designated computer generated reports and how to utilize them. 7. Knows how to post charges for controlled substances, floor stock and medications used during surgery and for any medication that is not charged via an automated system at the time of use. 8. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Ensures that the work area has been cleaned up before leaving his/her shift. 9. Effectively communicates with other health care professionals in a positive and courteous manner. 10. Maintains records to assure compliance with regulatory agencies. Completes monthly unit checks accurately and on time. 11. Acts as a Team Leader by coordinating work flow and directing technicians activities on a designated shift, when requested. 12. Actively participates in training new personnel. Takes initiative and uses time wisely to improve the pharmacy area during slower times. Minimum Qualifications Completion of a pharmacy tech training program is preferred. Six months of experience is preferred. Current Registered Pharmacy Technician or recognized as a Pharmacist Intern by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy is required. Skills Basic math and computer skills are required. Ability to type at 40 WPM is required.
