This Regional Medical Director opportunity is a result of our recent contract award for provision of health services to the Tennessee Department of Corrections. Responsibilities include Utilization Management, formulary management, physician leadership and mentoring and client relations. This opportunity will be located in Nashville.

Position SummaryThe Vice President of Medical Affairs of Community Health Choice will report to the President/Chief Executive Officer and will be responsible for all aspects of internal and external medical affairs. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, be able to successfully build consensus and a culture of accountability, as well as be solutions-oriented, collaborative, and dedicated. Qualified candidates will have at least three years of administrative leadership experience. SUMMARY OF POSITIONThe Medical Director will work closely with the existing team of talented physician executives and will routinely interface with other teams such as medical policy, care management, pharmacy, network, sales and medical informatics. She/he will be responsible for making medical necessity and other benefit coverage determinations in compliance with medical policies, protocols, product designs, and professional judgment. The Medical Director will make recommendations for clinical product and program development, including providing medical advice, input, and support to the full spectrum of Member Health Partnership Operations. She/he will also collaborate with local area medical leaders as needed and assist with the development of provider networks and partnerships.The Medical Director reports to the Senior Medical Director, a seasoned physician executive with a calm demeanor and approachable, team-oriented management style. BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE DESIREDThe Medical Director is a critical medical and business leader and contact for external providers, plan sponsors, and regulatory agencies; thus requiring superior interpersonal, negotiation, influencing and presentation skills. The successful candidate will also have the respect of her/his peers and credibility as a clinician with extensive experience in private practice. We are seeking a proven physician leader to continue to develop and lead one of the top academic inpatient general medicine programs in the country. In this leadership position:Clinical activities: The Director will lead and participate in clinical activities, including 16 weeks/year of inpatient activity. This includes managing care activities involving medical students, residents, faculty, and Fairview-employed hospitalists. As a working physician within the group, the directors cares for patients in partnership with colleagues, ensures coordination of care among all services, teaching and non-teaching, oversees the group to ensure all standards of medical practice as well as exceptional service standards are achieved.Administrative leadership and academic appointment: 50 percent of the director´s effort is devoted to development, recruitment, and leadership of inpatient medicine program at the medical center (35 percent administrative leadership of program and 15 percent developing educations curriculum/program innovations). As an administrative leader, the director interacts with leadership at the medical center and within the medical school to design and execute recruitment and retention plans, ensure all patient care objectives are achieved and maintain the financial viability of the program.
