Mercy Health System of Maine (MHSM), located in Portland, Maine seeks a Vice President of Medical Administration (VPMA) to provide leadership and the strategic direction to the Hospitals medical staff and to partner with the MHSMs CEO and the senior leadership team to ensure that appropriate organizational relationships exist to facilitate high quality physician practice at MHSM. The VPMA will join a cohesive, collaborative, and committed leadership team focused of designing and implementing strategies, policies, and programs to ensure that Mercy is able to both achieve its mission and thrive in the competitive Portland marketplace. Reporting to the CEO, the VPMA will have overall responsibility for guiding and directing hospital administrative and programmatic support for the Medical Staff and will provide administrative and clinical oversight to Mercy employed physicians. The VPMA will also provide leadership in defining the strategic direction of MHSM in the areas of: clinical quality, patient safety, and clinical risk management.This is an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional physician leader to play a key role in the leadership of a valued and respected hospital system that provides vital health care services to the communities it serves. The successful candidate will bring to MHSM a strong background in, and knowledge of, cutting edge quality and performance improvement strategies with experience and a track record as a successful administrative leader of the medical community. Have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a medical staff leadership role or other leadership role, in a medically related field with broad operational scope. Ideal candidates must posses an M.D. or D.O. degree, be Board certified, have high energy, and be committed to the success of MHSM. Experience as a VPMA, Chief Medical Officer, or Chief Quality Officer is highly desirable.MHSM includes a community hospital facility licensed for 230 beds. MHSM provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical, and obstetrical services as well as home health services, treatment for eating disorders and drug/alcohol addiction. Known for excellence of nursing care, this health system is prepared to help families with a lifetime of healthcare needs. To better serve the health care needs of the greater Portland community, MHSM continues to develop Primary Care Centers. These Centers offer the comfort and convenience of a neighborhood medical practice with highly qualified physicians and mid-level practitioners offering a full range of services. In addition to the primary care practices, MHSM continues to develop a wide range of specialty practices. These practices include; Physical Medicine, Breast Health, Oncology, Urology, Pulmonary & Critical Care, New England Foot & Ankle, Obstetrics, Hospitalists, Emergency Providers, and Physician Extenders.Currently MHSM is in the process of building a new hospital facility. Phase I of the project, a 151,000 square-foot hospital facility on the Fore River Campus opened in September 2008. The Phase I hospital is a full-service surgical facility and includes other services including MHSMs Birthplace, Orthopedic and Joint Program, imaging and laboratory services, the Outpatient Oncology/Hematology Center, Lymphedema Center, and Breast Care Specialists. Phase II of the project will include an expansion of the Phase I hospital, which will accommodate all remaining services located at the hospital located on State Street in Portland, Maine. With a population of 245,000, Greater Portland, offers scenic beauty, recreational opportunities, several colleges and universities, professional sports, and a wealth of historic, and cultural attractions. Portland sits on a peninsula in Casco Bay, a gateway to historic forts and lighthouses; yet the mountains of western Maine are just a forty-five minute drive. Portland is conveniently located off of I-95 and offers airline, bus and train transportation services, providing residents access to many locations throughout the northeast.
