Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC) is currently recruiting for a full-time Associate Medical Director of Family Planning Services. This is an Exempt position reporting to the Chief Medical Officer.
As part of the dynamic clinical leadership team at Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC), the Associate Medical Director of Reproductive Health Services assists the Chief Medical Officer in the oversight of clinical services, quality of care, and regulatory compliance at our health centers. Provides direct patient care, including contraceptive management and first and second trimester abortions; clinical supervision for staff; and training for clinical staff, students, residents and fellows. Participates in the PP4NY project, a collaboration of Planned Parenthood affiliates designed to enhance the availability, quality and cost-effectiveness of reproductive health care services in the downstate New York area. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assists the Chief Medical Officer and senior clinical management in operational planning and implementation of reproductive health services and programs. - Serves as Program Director of Abortion Services at PPNYC.- Provides direct clinical services in the following areas as needed: first and second trimester surgical abortions, medication abortions, ultrasonography, contraceptive services and office gynecology.- Provides clinical supervision and consultation to clinical staff during center hours and participates in the on-call system.- Provides physician supervision of clinical activities to ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to sound, evidence-based medical practices and policies.- Participates in recruitment, selection, credentialing, evaluation, and supervision of physician staff in abortion services. - Participates in the design, implementation and evaluation of clinical training and education programs for Advanced Practice Clinicians, other clinical staff and agency-authorized residents and fellows.- Participates in the development, revision, and implementation of clinical protocols and policies in accordance with PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines. Ensures that materials distributed to patients, the public, and community partners are medically accurate and up to date.- Coordinates and leads work teams to plan, implement and evaluate new or improved reproductive health services and programs. - Provides physician leadership in support of the Quality and Risk Management (QRM) program. Duties may include participation in the QRM Committee meetings, clinical chart audits, systems improvement initiatives, preparation for regulatory and accreditation reviews, monitoring of quality indicators, and other activities as needed.- Assists in scheduling physician coverage of clinic sessions and on call service as needed.- Meets on a periodic basis with the Chief Medical Officer and other PP4NY Medical Directors to enhance physician leadership at the affiliates and identify opportunities for collaboration to improve the availability, quality and cost-effectiveness of clinical services. - Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of collaborative PP4NY clinical initiatives, training and research programs.- Serves as a member of the PP4NY physician leadership team. Participates in medical leadership development and cross-affiliate initiatives to improve quality and access to abortion services and enhance collaborative training and research opportunities.- Represents the agency in communications and presentations to the external medical community and public as appropriate.- Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA. Works effectively with management, staff and volunteers.- Other duties may be assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:- Requires Doctor of Medicine (MD) with specialty in Obstetrics and Gynecology or another specialty with appropriate training and expertise in reproductive health care. - Must be licensed to practice medicine in New York State and have active status for specialty Board certification. - Minimum 3 years of related/applicable experience, including experience in both clinical practice and supervision. - Demonstrated excellence in relevant ambulatory surgery required, including performance of first and second trimester surgical abortions (up to 24 weeks gestation preferred), and evidence-based clinical practice in reproductive health. - Must possess experience and excellence as a physician leader, clinical supervisor, and medical educator with a track record of success in working collaboratively and in a team-focused environment. - Requires excellent verbal/written communication skills, proficiency in basic computer skills and software, including Word, and the ability to learn other software programs as needed. This position is full-time, with the possibility of a part-time option.
