Neurosurgery is a surgical discipline involving treatment of pathology involving the central nervous system, spine and peripheral nerves. Spinal neurosurgeons treat diseases of the spine including degenerative conditions, deformity, trauma, tumors and other conditions. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPatient Care:-The physician will evaluate patients in the clinical setting and discuss appropriate treatment options. There will be an emphasis on conservative care, when appropriate. The clinic schedule will be determined by the physician but will occur at regular intervals throughout the week.-The physician will perform surgical procedures that are deemed necessary throughout the week. This may occur under stressful conditions and require extended periods of after hour work.-The physician will be required to participate in multi-disciplinary conferences to direct patient treatment protocols.-He/she will be required to take spinal trauma emergency room call not to exceed four nights per month. In addition, he/she will be required to take after hour call for the practice in a schedule to be determined by the Spine and Scoliosis Center.-The physician will participate in research efforts under the direction of the Spine and Scoliosis Center.-The physician will obtain board certification in a timely manner per the medical staff bylaws and maintain that certification as required by the appropriate board.-The physician will complete all medical records in a timely manner per the medical staff bylaws.Physical Demands and Working Conditions:Extensive standing, sitting and walking. Frequent lifting and carrying items weighing more than 50 pounds. Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients. Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Frequent exposure to radiation, potentially infectious agents, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a physician´s office and operating room. Working under stressful conditions with prolonged, irregular hours. Must have corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.Qualifications:State Licensure required. Board certification or board eligibility required.
