The center prides itself in being the premier health facility of choice for residents living in these nearby communities. As a strong suburban medical center, OPMC´s mainstay is its well-trained, dynamic medical staff; Board certification/eligibility is a requirement for credentialing for the facility. Once a small community hospital, today, OPMC has grown into a highly sophisticated, multifaceted medical center, offering nearly every available specialty and service to its clientele. The 230-bed, full-service facility is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and has been recognized by the Solucient Institute as a Top 100 Hospital (2001, 2002) and a Top 100 ICU. In 2006, Healthgrades recognized OPMC with its Maternity Care Excellence Award, ranking it in the top 10 percent in the nation for maternity care and a five-star rating in maternity care. Its medical staff of more than 400 physicians represents nearly all specialties and is supported by over 1,000 highly skilled employees. OPMC´s slogan, Excellent service...every patient...every time speaks volumes about this outstanding suburban medical center. OPMC´s highly supportive administrative team views credentialing and the utilization of technology very seriously, as it continually works to ensure what is best for the hospital and the community it serves. Its staff has always been at the forefront of employing advanced medical technology to enhance the health of its patients, improve diagnosis, and facilitate treatment. In fact, Orange Park Medical Center prides itself in being one of northeast Florida´s primary innovators, providing new health services via cutting-edge technology for the entire area. For example, it was the first hospital in North Florida to perform laparoscopic gall bladder surgery and cochlear implants in the late ´80s; and it helped pioneer the use of the GE Light Speed CAT Scanner, which provided its radiologists and diagnosticians significantly enhanced detail and substantially shorter imaging times. Today, the GE Shortbore MRI and myriad neurosurgical procedures are some of OPMC´s areas of technological leadership. Orange Park is located in Clay County just south of Jacksonville on the banks of the St. Johns River. Clay County is experiencing rapid growth of a rate of 3-5% per year with a population in 2005 of approximately 160K residents. The median age in the community is 36.6 years of age, and a median household income is over $50K. Orange Park is part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan area, which comprises over a million people. About 20 minutes from the beaches, Orange Park offers excellent public and private schools, and a scenic riverside lifestyle.
