OB/GYN Opportunity in San Antonio
Provide a full range of specialty care to patients at Brooke Army Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Outpatient Clinic (BAMC OB/GYN), to provide consultation and assistance as required to OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner and to work in unison with objectives of the standards of care promulgated by Brooke Army Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic. At times, will provide consultation and assistance as required to resident physicians, interns, medical students and other trainees in their evaluation and management of inpatients and outpatients in the BAMC OB/GYN Clinics. The purpose of this position is to comply with the standard of care directives and to increase patient accessibility to specialty care by creating additional OB/GYN appointments.Provision of direct patient care is to obtain patient history, and carry out appropriate physical examination. Obtains indicated laboratory test, imaging studies and performs applicable diagnostic procedures within the limitations of stipulated by BAMCs and OB/GYN Clinics standard of care. Utilizes all available information to establish a diagnosis, formulate a treatment plan and initiate therapy as required. Utilizes specialty-unique technology in the evaluation and treatment of the patient. Diagnostic obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound, colposcopy and cryotherapy or supervises residents staff on the use of the same technology. Provides consultation and/or assistance on minor diagnostic outpatient Gynecologic procedures. Treats patients with routine gynecologic problems, patients with complex problems within limitations of the Obstetrics and Gynecology service. Provides health maintenance information and counseling. Thoroughly documents all aspects of the encounter in the Outpatient Treatment Record. Obtains consultation, provides referral, both within the department and with other medical elements within Brooke Army Medical Center, when required by the patient�s condition.Consults and teach providing consultation, assistance and advice to the Obstetric/Gynecology Nurse Practitioner. Provides consultation, assistance and advice to house staff, medical students and other medical personnel in training status in the outpatient clinic management of Obstetrics/Gynecology patients as required, including but not limited to, verification of suspected pathology on examination, advises as to management options, assistance in performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Provides advice and assistance to house staff as to proper patient disposition and administrative procedures, associated with practice of the specialty in the military environment. Provides lectures for purpose of teaching staff.Provides continuity of care and follow-up as indicated. Contacts patients to provide results of studies and tests. Interacts with the Patient Appointment System as necessary to ensure availability of return appointments at appropriate intervals. Complexity of Gynecology problems manifested by patients presenting to the clinic requires provider have certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in order to treat patients with complex problems to include evaluation and management on an outpatient basis. Workload consists primarily of scheduled appointment for patients with the full range of gynecologic conditions. Will provide services as required in Obstetrics/Gynecology clinic in accordance with scheduled graduate medical education activities.QUALIFICATIONS:A doctorate degree from an accredited college approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association or Doctor of Osteopathy for a college accredited by the American Osteopathic Association.A minimum of two years of experience within five years working as an OB/GYN physician.Currently licensed in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands and be able to obtain clinical privileges to practice medicine with the applicable MTF Credentials Committee.Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.Graduates of foreign medical schools are required to possess both a medical license and other certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or 5th Pathway.Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and advance cardiac life support (ACLS) certifications. The contractor is responsible for maintaining these certifications in a current status at all time while performing services under this contract.
