Watauga Medical Center is a 117-bed, not for profit facility; which is also the flagship hospital for Appalachian Regional Healthcare system (comprised of 3 facilities). We see approximately 22,000 ER visits per year. For its size WMC is more technologically advanced then many hospitals that have 300+ beds. Some of our state of the art facilities include: 64 slice and 4 slice CT Scanners, digital mammography, open and closed MRIs and an IGRT/IMRT linear accelerator. We have spared no expense in building a new $18 million Wellness Center/Outpatient Rehad Unit as well as a newly renovated Emergency Room.Our hospitalist program currently consists of 6 physicians that work 12 hour shifts and 7 day blocks (7 on/7 off). A normal shift would include 10-12 patient encounters and generally no procedures are necessary.
