Spectrum Health Medical Group (SHMG), formed in late 2008, is a rapidly growing multispecialty group practice and part of Spectrum Health, an integrated system hospital, a health plan and now a multispecialty medical group. While many healthcare organizations are downsizing, Spectrum Health Medical Group is growing at an unprecedented rate.The Chief of Surgical Services, integral to SHMG, will be responsible for the integration, enhancement and oversight of the multi-disciplinary group of surgeons who are currently employed by the group and those who will be joining the group; approximately 50 surgeons. The Chief will lead: recruitment and retention; development of new programs and surgical services; serve as the key liaison and Chief with Spectrum Health Hospitals Group; and serve as the oversight leader of the department´s operational effectiveness, quality and efficiency. The Chief will work collaboratively with the MSU Chairman to advance the scholarly activities of the surgical team.Board certified candidates for this position will have proven and demonstrable track records in managing performance metrics, building surgical programs, leading integration strategies and tactics, managing budgets, and excelling in quality and patient safety metrics. Best candidates will have stellar results as surgeons and in leading other surgeons through change and healthcare advancements in a group practice setting. Ideally, candidates will have recent experience in teaching and will have a background in research and academia.Grand Rapids, Michigan is the second largest city in the state located just 35 minutes from the shores of Lake Michigan.
