The Chief Medical Officer will report to Bruce Haga, Vice President, St. Vincent Physician Network and is accountable for all initiatives, programs, and achievement in the areas of physician leadership, patient care and clinical leadership, quality of care, education, information, research and communication as follows, along with other duties and responsibilities as assigned.ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPhysician Leadership-Review and approve doctor and allied health care practitioner payer credentials; -Provide specific guidance to develop doctor performance expectations; -Ensure that a system is in place for monitoring the performance of health care practitioners, including doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, etc.-Facilitate feedback to doctors and other health care practitioners twice a year on clinical performance and practices; -Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of core values across the employed doctor community.-Participate in the interviewing and hiring of new providers.Patient Care Clinical Leadership-Participate in administrative decision-making and the development of policies and procedures related to patient care; -Help develop, approve, implement and audit the effectiveness of specific clinical practices for the facility to incorporate into its care-related policies and procedures, including areas required by laws and regulations; (example Pay for Performance Initiatives) and national/natural disaster plans -Review, respond to and participate in federal, state, local and other external surveys and inspections (e.g., Joint Commission, State Board, CLIA, etc.); and -Help review and revise policies and procedures regarding the adequate protection of patients rights, care planning, and other ethical issues. Quality of Care-Works closely with the Network Director of Quality and Compliance;-Consistent with the St. Vincent Health Quality and Patient Safety Programs, helps the organization establish innovative programs (e.g., chronic disease management), systems and methods for measuring and reviewing the quality and appropriateness of clinical care and other health-related services and provide appropriate feedback;-Participate in the Networks quality improvement process; -Advise on infection control issues and oversee the development of approval of specific infection control policies to be incorporated into the organizations policies and procedures; -Help the Networks facilities provide a safe and caring environment; -Help promote employee health and safety; -Assist in the development and implementation of employee health policies and programs; and -Assume responsibility for improving patient satisfaction. Education, Information, Research and Communication-Develop CME opportunities for doctors and allied providers-Promote a learning culture within the organization by educating, informing, and communicating; -Assist the organization in developing medical information and communication systems with staff, patients, and families and others; -Represent the organization to the professional and lay community on medical and patient care issues;-Maintain knowledge of the changing social, regulatory, political, and economic factors that affect medical and health services of practice management; and -Help establish and maintain appropriate relationships with other health care organizations. -Maintain knowledge of all aspects of the educational and research activities of the St. Vincent Physician Network medical staff through the St. Vincent Institutional Review Committee. Must have highly developed interpersonal skills.Education and Experience RequiredMust have M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited school of medicine.Must be properly licensed to practice medicine in the State of Indiana and must be able to become an active member in good standing on the Medical Staff at a St. Vincent Health Hospital.Membership in the American College of Physician Executives.COMPENSATIONCompensation arrangements are competitive and will be commensurate with the selected candidates experience and achievements, and responsibilities of this position.
