HMC is a rural referral center for a population base of at least 150,000. We have a progressive open heart surgery program and spine program. Our medical staff consists of 80 active staff physicians and a full range of specialist services including cardiology, orthopaedics, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, general surgery, internal medicine, neurology, pulmonary/critical care, infectious disease, urology, and oncology. Our medical facility is home to the Michael E. DeBakey Heart Institute of Western Kansas. This new wing enabled Hays Medical Center to have all private rooms in 2005.
