We are seeking candidates for the position of residency program director in obstetrics and gynecology at Bridgeport Hospital / Yale New Haven Health. The new program director must be at least five years out of residency/fellowship training and have five or more years experience as a residency educator in obstetrics and gynecology. Some of the other qualifications are specialty expertise and documented educational and administrative experience, current certification in the specialty by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), or specialty qualifications that are acceptable to the Residency Review Committee (RRC), current medical licensure and appropriate medical staff appointment, commitment to and a minimum of five years experience in ambulatory primary health care for women. While past residency directors here have been generalists, a subspecialist with a strong background in residency education would also be considered. The residency was last reviewed by the RRC in 2008 and was awarded a five-year accreditation cycle. The residency is affiliated with Yale University.The residency program director portion of this individual´s responsibility will be a 0.5 FTE position, with the remaining time primarily involved in clinical practice and residency supervision. The successful candidate for program director would be eligible for a Yale clinical faculty position.Our residency has three positions per year. We have a strong track record of fellowship placement after residency. Last year, of our three graduates, two of them chose to pursue fellowships: one is an urogynecology fellow at North Shore/Long Island Jewish on Long Island, and the other is in the maternal-fetal medicine program at the Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard). Bridgeport Hospital is a 425 bed general hospital in Connecticut´s largest city, with approximately 2500 births per year and a busy gynecologic service, with all subspecialties represented. We are part of the Yale New Haven Health System which includes Yale New Haven Hospital and Greenwich Hospital. About half of Yale´s medical students come to Bridgeport Hospital for their core clerkship in obstetrics and gynecology. In the past the program director has also been the Yale clerkship director at our institution.Bridgeport Hospital is sixty miles from Midtown Manhattan with convenient connections to Grand Central Terminal via Metro North trains, and to Pennsylvania Station via Amtrak. Local residential opportunities are excellent and school systems in this area are rated highly. We are on Long Island Sound, 20 minutes from New Haven, 2 hours from Boston, and 3 hours from Vermont skiing. Airports within a reasonable drive include Westchester County, LaGuardia, Kennedy, Hartford, and Newark.
