It´s highly trained medical staff and other healthcare professionals represent a range of specialties and are dedicated to providing the most advanced care in an atmosphere of concern and compassion. The major service areas include; 24-7 Level III Emergency Care, Family Birthing Center, complete line of Diagnostic Imaging including High Speed CT, Ultrasound, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine and Open MRI. Columbus Regional´s surgical services include: orthopedic, gynecological, urological, vascular, ear-nose-throat and ophthalmic surgeries.In late 2007, the Columbus Regional Healthcare System Board of Trustees selected Carolinas Healthcare System as a management partner. Though Columbus Regional remains a locally owned and governed healthcare system focused on elevating the health of the local communities it serves, the forward-thinking Board recognized the need for a partnership to ensure long-term financial viability and to access clinical, quality, and administrative support services generally available only to large systems. In its role as management partner, Carolinas Healthcare System provides assistance in strategic planning, quality improvement, physician recruitment/network development, and compliance and financial oversight, in addition to core day-to-day operational management which is primarily provided through the placement of three key on-site positions: Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer/VP Finance, and Chief Medical Officer/VP Medical Affairs.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESThe CMO/VPMA, as a member of the executive team and a direct report of the CEO, ensures quality care to all patients of the hospital. This requires building relationships with and between the medical staff, the hospital and the community. The CMO/VPMA, in concert with the executive team and clinical leadership, is responsible for monitoring the utilization of clinical resources and support for the professional environment of the physician and the care of the patient.Primary duties and responsibilities include:*acting as a liaison between the Medical Staff, including the Chief of Staff and Department Chairs, Administration and Operations;*translating medical staff issues, as needed, to the hospital executive team;*providing consistent, effective communication to the Medical Staff;*serving as a resource to the Medical Staff and hospital staff;working collaboratively with and supports the efforts of all team members;*working closely with CHS Quality Department (with a dotted-line relationship to the CHS System CMO) to best utilize system resources and, as appropriate, to coordinate and align system initiatives and goals at CRHS;*providing oversight and direction to the Quality, Patient Safety, Infection Control, and Accreditation teams and staff, including development of performance improvement initiatives through data collection, process change, and cross-functional team participation;*providing oversight and direction to Medical Staff Services regarding credentialing activities, bylaws, rules and regulations, and Medical Staff Quality review activities;*providing oversight and direction to the Case Management, Social Work, Medical Records, and Coding and Documentation teams and staff in their clinical support roles;*providing clinical oversight, support, and direction for the Hospitalist Program, as well as for future medical practices of the Columbus Regional Health Network;*providing clinical oversight and support for clinical Medical Directors and leaders of contracted physician services, including ED, Cancer Center, Radiology, Anesthesia and Pathology;*participating, supporting, and leading improvements in Medical Staff peer review and utilization review processes;*participating and leading Medical Staff leadership development activities; *supporting and securing the Safety Net mission of the hospital;*implementing strategies along with the Executive Team and Clinical leadership to improve patient care and satisfaction;*developing and monitoring the budget and achieves budget targets;*ensuring compliance with state, federal and JCAHO regulations;*participating in strategic planning for the hospital by developing goals and objectives for quality care and efficient, cost effective care; align initiatives when appropriate with state, national and system goals; *developing a collaborative relationship with peers and physician executives within the region and CHS.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS*graduation from an accredited medical school; MD or DO Degree is required; Board Certification required;*MBA, MMM or other advanced management degree preferred;*regular participant/member in professional development opportunities and organizations, i.e., ACPE, IHI, etc.*a minimum of 10 years of clinical practice with a reputation as an excellent clinician; *experience establishing the function and/or serving as a VPMA, CMO, Medical Director or the equivalent is desired; *eligibility for licensure to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina;*substantial experience as physician leader in advancing quality and safety initiatives;*demonstrated leadership and management skills, including effective problem solving;*an understanding of the needs and challenges of community based physician practices;*demonstrated ability to collaborate and build bridges across disciplines;*excellent communication and negotiation skills; respectful of others ideas and points of view;*excellent data interpretation skills.
