OB/GYN A representative but not inclusive list of procedures and competencies are stated below. It is expected that other procedures and problems of similar complexity will fall within the identified Core and Special Request Privileges. Implicit in these privileges is the understanding that disorders without definitive diagnoses, persistent or progressive signs and symptoms, or requiring care beyond the scope of the holders training will require further consultation. I. Ambulatory Care A. Core Privileges in Obstetrics: Core privileges include admission, work up, diagnosis, and management of pregnancy, including the provision of consultation as well as the ordering of diagnostic studies. Obstetric procedures include amniocentesis, external breech version, internal breech version and extraction), cesarean section, cesarean hysterectomy, fetal scalp sampling, forceps delivery (mid, low), normal vaginal delivery, Ob ultrasound, pelvic regional anesthesia, suture of incompetent cervix, vacuum extraction, and VBAC. Termination of pregnancy procedures includes suction curettage and Prostaglandin termination. B. Core Privileges in Gynecology: Core privileges include admission, work up, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting with illness, injury, and disorders of the female genitourinary system, including the provision of consultation as well as the ordering of diagnostic studies. Gynecology core privileges also include diagnosis and management of gynecological diseases and procedures including abdominal and transvaginal hysterectomy, anterior-posterior colporrhaphy, Bartholin cystectomy, biopsy (cervix, vulva, vagina, endometrium), cervical conization, dilation and curettage, hymenotomy, hysteroscopy, I&D of abscess, incidental appendectomy, anterior urethral suspension, myomectomy, oophorectomy, ovarian cystectomy, perineorrhaphy, removal of cervical polyps, repair of recto-vaginal fistula, repair simple cystotomy, salpingectomy, suction curettage, trachelectomy, tubal ligation, uterine suspension, vaginal exam under anesthesia, simple vulvectomy and pelvic ultrasound. Privileges also include laparoscopy of minimal endometriosis with adhesion lysis and removal of simple lesions, laparoscopic biopsy and aspiration of cysts, laparoscopic treatment of ectopic pregnancy, laparoscopic tubal ligation, appendectomy, colpotomy, evisceration repair, enterocele repair, loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP). II. Hospital Care A.
