Massachusetts General Hospital offers an externship opportunity in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for interested third and fourth year students who would like additional exposure to the discipline and a chance to work in our Department. Located in downtown Boston, the MGH is a large level one trauma center. Our department offers exposure to the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for those contemplating pursuing this career. The extern will have the opportunity to work in our outpatient unit, attend major and day surgical operating room cases, be involved in multiple didactic conference in orthognathic surgery, pathology, pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery and head and neck oncology. Trauma management and emergency room coverage is also a component of the month. The opportunity to rotate at the Childrens Hospital will afford broad exposure to Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Available end of April through August.Must be a third or fourth year dental student from a United States or Canadian dental school with a serious interest in pursuing a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The responsibilities of the intern are identical to those of the categorical 1st year residents; including clinical and didactic responsibilities. This includes call at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, a robust implant experience, participation in OR cases, and staffing outpatient dentoalveolar clinics. The patient management experience you will gain from the variety of conditions treated in our unit will be invaluable as you continue to pursue a career in oral-maxillofacial surgery. A well rounded didactic schedule (including a physical diagnosis course) compliments the clinical experience at Maryland.
